About

Clinical Lead for Children with Complex Needs & Designated Clinical Officer for SEND

I have been a Registered Children’s Nurse since 1997 and have always had a special interest in providing high quality nursing care for children and young people with complex health needs and their families. I have a BSc (Hons) first class degree Specialist Practice Qualification in Community Children's Nursing, and I am a qualified Practice Teacher. I am skilled in creative practice development having trained with the Foundation of Nursing Studies as their Richard Tomkins Scholar of 2017 and use quality improvement methods to lead system improvements in patient experience and patient safety. I am currently the Designated Clinical Officer for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, a role that allows me a panoramic view of children and young people's services, and the grounding engagement with people with lived and learned experience's of what good looks like. In 2022, Dame Ruth May awarded me a Silver Chief Nursing Officer- England award for nursing excellence in service for children with complex health needs. It was a great honour to be recognised for the work I am so passionate about. My fundamental belief is the importance of practicing person centredness in how I think and act. No-one knows what it is like to walk in another person’s shoes. Listening to understand, compassion, courage and commitment are the values that I strive to uphold in my everyday work for the babies children, young adults and families of Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.
