Support #InclusiveHR with Timebanking
The HPMA London Academy is delighted to be working with the London Talent Team in NHS England to support our campaign to improve equality, diversity, and inclusion for the people profession via the Talent Timebanking platform. Signing up to the platform is an excellent opportunity for HR and OD colleagues to work together to enhance their career and development opportunities, as part of our wider plan to address the under-representation of black, Asian and minority ethnic practitioners in all roles across the NHS people profession.
We are supporting this work as part of the social movement #InclusiveHR which encourages all organisations across the NHS to undertake the 5-step challenge to change. This framework outlines 5 key steps to improve the staff experience of marginalised groups and to remove the barriers that prevent them from flourishing within their profession.

Part of exploring and examining the experiences of staff is to illuminate the inequalities and look at the actions that can be taken to improve the career and development opportunities of black, Asian and minority ethnic colleagues. White colleagues are part of the solution to addressing the issues of inequality and their views on actions that can be taken to encourage active allyship are key, and timebanking is one of the interventions that could be considered within a directorate as well as across organisational boundaries. The rationale and background information on this can be found in the #InclusiveHR Toolkit
From this toolkit, step 4 involves implementing clear interventions to address the barriers and concerns experienced by black, Asian and minority ethnic colleagues in many aspects of their working lives, including career advancement and accessing development opportunities. These interventions can take many forms including the provision of good quality career conversations, career coaching, mentoring, and shadowing and much more. In order to close the inequality gap, its important that allies recognise the issue, and look at the actions they need to take to better understand and utilise their positional power to provide equality of access and opportunities for marginalised groups to advance and realise their potential.
The Talent Timebanking platform works from the core principle that everyone is talented and has wisdom, experience, and skills to share. Whether you would like to contribute your time on the platform or benefit from the experience and skills of your colleagues, the platform provides the whole HR/OD community with an opportunity to get involved. We would therefore like to encourage you to register on this platform and play an active role in closing the inequality gap and supporting the #InclusiveHR social movement to improve equality, diversity, and inclusion for the whole people profession.
