Medical Secretary
I currently work as a Senior Admin Officer for University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire in the Palliative department. It is my responsibility to manage the Outpatient Waiting Lists and ensure patients are booked within the Trust timescales of six weeks, clinic letters are dictated and distributed to the appropriate healthcare colleagues and relevant Trust systems reflect the current position of a patient’s treatment and stage of care.
I work with a wide range of colleagues including consultants and neurophysiological technicians, whom I support on a daily basis to ensure the department runs smoothly whilst maintaining Trust values.
I am an ambitious professional; with NVQ level 2 qualifications, aiming to achieve level 3 who is determined to further my career within the NHS Trust. I have been working for the NHS for the last thirteen years and would continue to be the part of providing the quality service working as an administration/clerical within the NHS I understand that admin work plays an essential role in delivering the best service possible for patients.
In addition to my academic qualifications, I have the set of skills suitable for this position. Through both my studies and my work experience, I have developed excellent communication skills by interacting verbally and electronically with colleagues, other service users and patients. I deal with various sorts of telephone queries which have enabled me to become a strong team player. At the same time I am equally capable of working independently such as weekends/bank holidays/late nights. While working independently in my previous and current role, I have prioritise work load effectively and efficiently am responsible for booking appointments for patients referred to us through GPs. This involves putting up referrals, waiting list and sending paperwork back to all the specialities within the Trust. This role has improved my organisational and management skills.
When working in an office where sometimes we deal with patient samples, health and safety compliance is essential due to the nature of the clinical work for the radiographers and dealing with patient samples that may be hazardous. I am up to date with all my mandatory training such as information governance, fire safety, manual handling, hand washing, am also aware of the trust policies such as patient confidently. I ensure that I read the appropriate SOPs and risk/COSHH assessments to ensure that not only my handling of sample is correct but also that I am adhering to health and safety guidelines necessary to maintain a safe working environment. I am always keen to take a proactive role within the office and always happy to train new or less competent staff. I also assist my senior staff with their projects; this involves collecting data's, going through archived data and find data's specific to the projects, and making phone calls in relation to projects. I am also proficient in computer skills and have good experience in MS Office which includes MS, Word Excel, Out Look and Power Point.
My involvement in projects and my experience in the office have presented me with a wide range of responsibilities and developed my ability to contribute effectively to the work of a team. Given the opportunity, I would have great pleasure in working in this department and making a positive contribution
