About
Driving sustainable healthcare improvement through strategy, behavioural insight, and cross‑sector collaboration
I am a Consultant Pharmacist in Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) and clinical academic with over 25 years’ experience leading high-impact programmes across primary and secondary care, academia, and national healthcare initiatives. My work centres on translating evidence into practice to optimise antimicrobial and antifungal use, improve patient outcomes, and deliver measurable system-wide improvement. I have led complex, multi-sector programmes at the interface of clinical practice, research, and policy, including the development of a pioneering antifungal stewardship (AFS) programme in a tertiary centre in the East of England. This work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and adopted nationally and internationally. Most recently, within an Integrated Care Board (ICB), I led a system-wide quality improvement programme across a population of ~1 million people spanning primary care, acute, and community services. The programme targeted high antibiotic prescribing practices while also driving improvement across ICS hospital settings. It required close collaboration with clinicians, senior directors, public health teams, and NHS England (NHSE) to align priorities across organisational boundaries and deliver coordinated, evidence-based improvement. The work included implementation of updated clinical guidance, targeted education and training, and delivery against both legacy and emerging ICB priorities. It also generated regional innovation, including a patient engagement survey and a novel “escape room” educational intervention to improve clinician engagement with stewardship principles. I bring extensive experience in: -Strategic programme design and delivery across complex healthcare systems -Cross-sector leadership and senior stakeholder engagement -Application of behavioural science to antimicrobial stewardship -Research, evaluation, and rapid translation of evidence into practice. Alongside my clinical leadership, I have acted as a consultant to pharmaceutical organisations for over 15 years, providing specialist expertise in antimicrobial stewardship and infection management. My current research interests include antimicrobial stewardship, behaviour change, and multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs).
