I am a qualified children’s nurse with over thirty years’ experience in the field of Babies, Children and Young People’s (BCYP) Nursing. My career started as a specialist children's cancer nurse in 1993, and I have worked across 8 acute provider Trusts over a wide geographical range, working my way from a Band 5 to my first Band 7 role in 1998. Following a number of years as a clinical Band 7, I diversified out into managing all aspects of BCYP nursing, becoming a matron in 2012, taking several more senior nursing leadership roles, moving into the national NHS England BCYP nursing lead role in 2021, prior to returning to Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2024. As Deputy Chief Nurse, I deputise for the Chief Nurse, working collaboratively alongside her leading on several key workstreams. These include leading on professional development and wellbeing support of the nursing teams and supporting the workforce and quality lead on key projects such as ward accreditation, pathway to excellence, the nursing strategy and operational optimisation/ flow programme across the Trust. I believe passionately in holding staff responsible for maintaining and upholding of professional standards and am a visible leader across the Trust. I am also one of the deputies for the Association of Chief Children's Nurses ( ACCN), supporting conference organisation, promoting and raising the awareness of the specific needs of BCYP nurses and I am well networked within the specialism of BCYP.
