It was a privilege to be called to serve as a panel member to Her Majesty's Inspectorate Constabulary (HMIC) in issues of 'Honour' Based Violence, including Female Genital Cutting/Mutilation (FGC/M) and Forced Marriage. I was party to the work that led to Mandatory reporting of FGM within educational, health and social care institutions.

As a public speaker, I have also been a panel member on media forums such as Public Exchange Policy,  discussing haemoglobinopathies, FG/M and religious matters.

As a scholar, the Department of health via Institute of Health Visiting sponsored me to write two guidelines for Health Visitors on strategies for combating Female Genital Cutting/Mutilation (FGC/M). I have contrbuted to two scientific books pUblished by Blacwell Scientific Publications, written two books and published numerous peer review academic papers.I have published and contributed chapters in midwifery and nursing textbooks as well as published widely within and beyond midwifery.

I remain active in research and currently serve as Principal Investigator for National and Global research projects that Royal London Maternity Unit engages in and have served my previous Trust as Principal Investigator for various National and Internal Research projects. As an aspiring researcher, I also teach in these areas. I am experienced in research project supervision at BSc, Master’s degree and postgraduate levels.
