I am an author, expert clinician; and an academic who has traversed almost four decades of midwifery academic and clinical practice. Within this time frame, I have served Higher Education Institutions for almost two decades and have graduated thousands of students, many of whom are in senior leadership positions in/outside the NHS. I currently serve as Senior Consultant Midwife, Midwifery Ambassador, NHS Leadership mentor, Personalised Care Institute Ambassador, and RCOG Teaching Fellow. As a midwifery Ambassador, my passion is to enhance and promote midwifery practice at local, national, and international levels and to continue to develop and nurture the next generation of midwives. My specialism lies within Breech and External Cephalic Versions: which I hold a weekly clinic on, complications during childbearing, Continuity of Care, Complex Birth planning, haemoglobinopathies, maternal mental health and the interplay of culture in maternal health and through the perinatal periods. I teach frequently in my areas of expertise including on Personalised Care Plan support, management of complex pregnancies and health promotion to enhance wellbeing through the childbirth continue.
As a Race Equality matters Trail Blazer Judging panellist, I have responsibility for reviewing the evidence organisations have submitted on Trail Blazer applications and to determine whether they are making impactful strides for race equality.
It was a privilege to be called to serve as a panel member to Her Majesty's Inspectorate Constabulary (HMIC) in issues of 'Honour' Based Violence, including Female Genital Cutting/Mutilation (FGC/M) and Forced Marriage. I was party to the work that led to Mandatory reporting of FGM within educational, health and social care institutions.
As a public speaker, I have also been a panel member on media forums such as Public Exchange Policy, discussing haemoglobinopathies, FG/M and religious matters.
As a scholar, the Department of health via Institute of Health Visiting sponsored me to write two guidelines for Health Visitors on strategies for combating Female Genital Cutting/Mutilation (FGC/M). I have contrbuted to two scientific books pUblished by Blacwell Scientific Publications, written two books and published numerous peer review academic papers.I have published and contributed chapters in midwifery and nursing textbooks as well as published widely within and beyond midwifery.
I remain active in research and currently serve as Principal Investigator for National and Global research projects that Royal London Maternity Unit engages in and have served my previous Trust as Principal Investigator for various National and Internal Research projects. As an aspiring researcher, I also teach in these areas. I am experienced in research project supervision at BSc, Master’s degree and postgraduate levels.
As an NHS- trained Mentor, I currently serve as NHS leadership Academy coach and mentor in senior leadership.
In the recent past, I have served as an internal Earned Autonomy reviewer for the Nursing Midwifery Council as well as LSA Academic support for midwifery staff on supported and supervised practice on numerous occasions.
My aspiration is to continue to be a flag bearer for midwifery and to serve at regional, national, or international arena as a health ambassador.
