Professional Lead Nurse for Children's Universal Services
I have been a qualified nurse for over 20 years. I initially trained as a registered children’s nurse and it was during this training that I spent time with our local school nursing team and knew this was the career path I wanted to pursue. I initially joined the School Nursing Team within Staffordshire as a Staff Nurse and within twelve months commenced my School Nurse training.
Throughout my nursing career I have enjoyed various roles including: staff nurse, school nurse, team leader for school nurses and for the last ten years I have been a professional lead. The professional lead role initially focused on school nursing and other school aged services and more recently has evolved into being the professional lead for children’s universal services (health visiting, school nursing, targeted intervention service and school aged immunisation services). This development within my role prompted me to complete further training regarding health visiting in the form of Transfer of Skills.
I work within the Children and Families Care Group and Universal Functions wonderful teams. I thoroughly enjoy the challenges of working in the ever-changing NHS environment and working with our amazing, caring, knowledgeable and professional teams who always strive to provide the best services for our local infants, children, young people and families.
I am extremely passionate about public health nursing, health visiting, school nursing, special school nursing and school aged immunisations and all the wonderful members of our work family that make it the service what it is.
I am dyslexic and I feel this enables me to occasionally view things from a different aspect, leading to creative solutions and approaches. I also have long term health conditions and I hope me being open regarding this helps other people to feel that they can be open regarding challenges that they may have and know at MPFT we are supportive, inclusive and committed to learning and listening and every evolving.
This also drove my passion to become a RCN Cultural Ambassador and EDI champion. I am also an expert advisor for the School and Public health Nursing Association (SAPHNA) and on the Trust Board for ERIC the national children’s Continence charity.
